From battling relegation to LaLiga Hypermotion top after 11 games

After Matchday 20, penultimate fixture of the first half of the season, UD Almería are the current table-toppers. The Rojiblancos defend this first position on Sunday against Cádiz CF after a 11-game unbeaten streak, picking up 29 of the 33 points at stake and climbing 18 positions

UD Almería moved temporarily top of the LaLiga Hypermotion table last Wednesday night after their spectacular victory in Ferrol. Racing de Santander had one game in hand (Matchday 20) that lost to Elche CF last Thursday so the Rojiblancos remain table-toppers at the end of the penultimate match week of the first half of the season. In this way, Rubi's side are bossing the standings with 38 points, one above the Cantabria-based team and 3 over CD Mirandés and Real Oviedo. Now, further away, Elche CF are 5 points adrift while SD Huesca are 6 behind, who are the ones with the fewest points within the promotion play-off zone.

UD Almería will fight to the death this Sunday (KO 6:30pm Spanish Time) against Cádiz CF to carry on leading the Segunda table. It will be their last match of 2024 that will wrap up the first half of the campaign.  The Cadistas, with new head coach Gaizka Garitano in the driving seat, who was at the helm of the Indálico outfit back in the 2023/24 season for 19 games, have not been defeated yet since his arrival clinching one victory and one draw.

UD Almería will go all out in the upcoming Andalusian battle in a bid to remain in the top spot as they are fully aware of how hard it has been to achieve it and how much they have suffered to be up there. Let's not forget that on the past Matchday 9, the Rojiblancos were in the drop zone with only 9 points. The team led by Rubi have successfully proved their bouncebackability because in just two months, in 11 unbeaten games, they have collected 29 of the 33 points at stake (9 wins and 2 draws), and have climbed up 18 positions to reach the summit of the LaLiga Hypermotion table. What a remarkable feat!
