Melero: 'We must learn from this defeat and make sure it doesn't happen again'
The UD Almería co-captain judges himself and admits the bad first half played in Albacete. 'We've lost a game after 14 unbeaten games. It cannot influence us negatively, especially hosting direct rivals like Real Oviedo on Saturday,' he said
'We must learn from the defeat and make sure it doesn't happen again,' stated UD Almería co-captain and central midfielder Gonzalo Melero, who wore the team armband against Albacete BP at the Carlos Belmonte stadium.
The Madrid native footballer explained on UDA Radio, the Club's official radio station, that they regretted more the way of being defeated rather than the fact of losing a game since sooner or later it would have to happen after a long unbeaten streak.
'We've been very disorganised and the opponents have won the 1v1 duels, the second balls, they've counter-attacked too easily... The best thing was the result, we must assume that it doesn't happen again,' explained Melero.
The 31-year-old valued the first few minutes with chances: 'In the second period we took a step forward. In the dressing room we all looked at each other's faces and we wanted to turn the game around.' Despite trying their best and being close to it, he acknowledged: 'The penalty already made things very complicated for us, although in the end we scored a goal and the post denied us another chance.'
Despite dropping 3 points, there is no need to punish themselves and this was underlined by the UD Almería player, who in this regard stated: 'We had been unbeaten for 14 games and losing could happen sooner or later. What we need now is not to let the loss influence us negatively, especially when we have a match on Saturday against direct rivals Real Oviedo. At home and with our fans we cannot let the three points escape.'
