De la Hoz: ‘We have to focus only on our game and try to win it’

The UD Almeria co-captain states that everything depends on them and they are not depending on other teams or results in the race for promotion to the top flight

‘We have to focus only on our game and try to win it,' exclaimed UD Almeria co-captain Cesar de la Hoz in the press room at the Mediterraneo when looking ahead to next Monday's home match against Sporting de Gijón.

The Cantabria native footballer argued ‘we depend on ourselves so we do not have to depend on other teams or results.’ In fact, he stressed ‘it’ll be a key game in this final stretch. We mustn't look beyond the imminent league meeting we have.’

With these words the team is moving onto the next one, Sporting de Gijón, about whom César de la Hoz said ‘they’re a great squad with quality players and a strong team even though things were not going well for them lately. Before losing the Asturian derby, they were a group with good team dynamics. We can’t take them for granted so we must come out onto the pitch very focused.’

The 30-year-old midfielder pointed out ‘we have to start the game as a rock-solid squad and go all out for a win from the off. We can’t relax and we can work to control the different aspects of the game.’ At this point and competing on home turf ‘the three points are key to fulfill our aspirations.’

With regard to the constant support of the UD Almeria fans: ‘We’ve taken another big step forward this season and we really feel their support, which is essential. We’ve already felt the warmth of their welcome upon arrival at the Stadium and that hugely motivates us. We need it,’ stressed César de la Hoz.
