Curro: ‘Being in the top flight is at stake and it’s impossible for us to relax’
The UD Almeria attacking midfielder highlights ‘the physical energy’ of SD Amorebieta and the importance of earning the 3 points this Saturday
UD Almería are right in the thick of the promotion race and the dressing room seems armored against the predictions made in this final stretch of the championship. This is clear judging by the words of one of its players, Curro Sánchez, who has warned when catching up with the Club’s official media the following: ‘SD Amorebieta have a lot at stake because they’re fighting to stay up. In the second half of the season those teams at the bottom collect many points and if we want to win, we must give one hundred percent.’ The 26-year-old player highlights ‘It’s a team that competes very well and they’re physically much stronger. With our quality and the game we play, we must impose our style and win.’
The situation is almost idyllic but certainly not definitive: ‘We’ve got to go all out and beat SD Amorebieta. Being in the top flight [Primera Division] is at stake and it's impossible for us to relax’ explains the UD Almeria midfielder while stating that this current season is of great value: ‘There’s a lot of work behind all this. It seems easy to be in this situation but this UD Almería have worked really hard and deserve to be where they are right now.’
The next home fixture (Matchday 39) is of particular interest to the Rojiblancos since the pacesetters and the third-placed will be hammering away at each other: ‘We’ve spoken little about that match. We’ll see how that game turns out but we only think about beating SD Amorebieta and if possible, becoming champions because we’re humble but ambitious too.’ On that note, the La Palma del Condado native adds: ‘It’s a great opportunity knowing that SD Eibar vs Real Valladolid CF is going to be played this weekend; if we get the three points on Saturday, we’ll have a huge opportunity to finish off this season with promotion.’
In football, nothing is guaranteed and Curro's experience is a clear example: ‘I’ve played for Sevilla Atletico and whenever you visited the pitches of the favourites who were first or second, they expected you to be done and out of the blue, you ended up winning or snatching a draw from the claws of defeat. You have to work hard in football if you want to beat whoever rivals you have in front of you.’
