André Horta and Nelson Monte officially presented by UD Almería
The midfielder and centre-back join the club with promotion ambitions
UD Almería's summer signings, André Horta and Nelson Monte were officially introduced at an event hosted by Mariano Blanco, the Club’s secretary of the board. Both players expressed their excitement about the ambitious project at the Club, with the goal of achieving promotion to LaLiga.
André Horta, a 28-year-old midfielder, is set to experience his first season in Spain's second division after a distinguished career at Olympiakos FC and several top-tier Portuguese clubs. Having competed in major European competitions like the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, Horta is keen to contribute to UD Almería's promotion push. 'Spanish football is among the best in the world,' he noted, referencing the growing interest from Portuguese clubs in Spain's second tier.
On his adaptation to the team, Horta added: 'The football here suits my style, and I’m in good physical shape. The season has just begun, and my focus is on the present, but my goal is clear: promotion and a future in Spain.'
Defender Nelson Monte returns to UD Almería for his second spell, this time with a clear goal of contributing to the team's climb back to LaLiga. The 30-year-old had joined the Club during the previous season in the midst of the war in Ukraine and while he could not debut, he remains grateful for the promotion. Now, Monte is fully focused on the Club's new challenge.
With extensive experience in Spain's second division, including a successful season with Málaga CF, Monte knows what it takes to succeed in this competitive league. 'A solid defence and limiting goals conceded are crucial if we want to fight for the top,' he said.
Monte, who is recovering from an ankle injury sustained during pre-season with Águilas FC, is progressing well, though his full recovery will take time. 'I'm feeling better, but the head coach has said we need to be patient before I'm back on the pitch,' he explained.
