Rubi: We would've had more chances with 11 players

The UD Almeria head coach stated: Luis Suarez's sending-off has influenced the game. We’ve been defeated, but also reinforced

UD Almeria head coach Rubi considered after the match played against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena Stadium that ‘the sending off has influenced the game because that’s what happens when this takes place in the first half,’ and added: ‘I’m convinced that we would've had more chances with 11 players.’

Despite the away defeat, the Rojiblancos’ gaffer praised the performance put in by his players: ‘We’ve been defeated, but also reinforced. We’ve weakened the opponents’ strengths as much as we could.'

When asked about his take on Luis Suárez’s dismissal, Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia ‘Rubi’ replied: ‘It was unfortunate. The player had no intention of hurting the opponent, but he was late and kicked the shin. Now, with the VAR review and the replays that the referees watch, this tackle deserves a red card.’

Rubi, after reaching the break, approached the match official to tell him that he had overextended the first-half with four minutes of added time: ‘It was a simple comment, nothing more, because I don't think the VAR consultation took that long, as it was quick. Nothing else. Then, Take Kubo scored a stunning goal and I congratulate him,’  he explained.

The UD Almería head coach is sorry Luis Suárez will not be able to feature in the next game but as he pointed out: ‘It's bad news, but we'll find a solution for the next match.’ Finally, he indicated: ‘In the second half, we did what we had to do, which was to play as a compact team and although we created uncertainty, we didn’t have a big chance.’
