Carriço: ‘Almería’s project is ambitious and exciting!’
The centre-back underlines in his official presentation ‘after competing in China for almost two years, I felt I needed to compete at this level again’
‘Almería’s project is ambitious and exciting! After competing in China for almost two years, I felt I needed to compete at this level again. I've always been competitive and ambitious. I want to fight for great things,’ exclaimed newcomer UD Almeria Daniel Carriço, who has been officially presented by Club's general director Mohamed El Assy.
The UD Almeria CEO gratefully thanked the Portuguese centre-back ‘for the effort and sacrifice he has made to come to Almería. We needed a player like him, with experience and quality for the central defender position.’
The former Sevilla FC footballer, who lifted with the Blanquirrojos three consecutive Europa League titles, explained ‘when this opportunity arose, I saw that it was good for me, especially because of the project, but also because I returned to Spain, a country where I've been very happy.’
Daniel Filipe Martins Carriço also stated: ‘there’s a deep desire to move up to Primera Division and right now, we’ve formed a great squad with all the possibilities for this to be a good year. Now, I hope that together we’ll make a great team to aspire to become the greatest version of ourselves.’
The 33-year-old Lusitanian stresses that he is physically well ‘I’m coming from China where I played the last game on 15 August, so it hasn’t been a long time and if the head coach deems it appropriate, I’m at his disposal.’
When the Cascais native was asked about LaLiga SmartBank, he pointed out ‘it’s a very competitive, demanding league. This year, UD Almería have many possibilities of having a great season and earning promotion to the Primera Division, knowing that it’s not easy because it’s a very difficult championship in which only two teams win automatic promotion and then…the play-offs, which are even more complicated.’ On this subject, he indicated ‘it’s clear that we have to give it our all. We have that pressure, that ambition and we’re going to do everything so that the group grows throughout the season.’
