Babić: ‘Promotion is in our hands so we have to focus on our business’

The Serbian, who is recovering from a knock he received to his back, stresses that the match against Real Zaragoza is over and now they only think about CD Lugo

Srđan Babić caught up with the media this Monday afternoon. ‘I don't look much at what SD Eibar or Real Valladolid CF are doing; promotion is in our hands and we have to focus on our business,’ stated UD Almeria central defender Srđan Babić while he is recovering from knock he received to his back in the match at La Romareda Stadium. He also said: ‘I'm fine and I'm getting ready for the next match.’

Although the encounter with Real Zaragoza is a thing of the past, Babić recalled ‘strange stuff happened to us and we had very bad luck. We missed a penalty, a goal was disallowed, we hit the crossbar and the post and then it's the rivals who score. On top of that, we continue to have team-mates being ruled out over injuries… But in the face of so much misfortune, we have no choice but to get back on our feet and keep going.’

The next up is CD Lugo, opponents who will not be easy to defeat since they have only lost one game in the last fifteen. The Serbian stressed ‘we have to go out there and play good football at home. Our fans overwhelmingly support us and it seems that it’s always the twelve of us on the pitch. CD Lugo will go into the game in good form, but we have to make ourselves strong on home soil. We have to keep working to make our chances successful and improve in defence. We were doing okay, although we got a bit tangled up in Zaragoza. We’re actually confident in our chances.’

Meanwhile, the race for promotion is hotting up and the Rojiblanco centre-back admitted ‘We have twelve finals ahead because at this point all the rivals will make it very difficult so we have to play each game as if it were the last.’

Regarding the recent signing of Rodrigo Ely, he commented ‘we’re here to help the newcomers and we’ll give everything so that they adapt as soon as possible. When I arrived here I said that I could help the team by playing with Chumi, Iván or Dani. I’ve teamed up with everyone. It's not easy to change partners as a central defender, but now with Rodrigo I think everything will work out. Let's get to know each other in training and we'll see from there. He’s got experience and knows Spanish football. I bet it won't be hard for him to fit in.’
