Babić: 'It's always an honour and a pleasure to play for your country's team'
The Serbian centre-back states 'I want to keep up the good work in Almería so I can get more international call-ups.' Now he only thinks about RCD Mallorca though.
'I'm pleased and really happy about my first call-up to the Serbia senior team. I'm determined to keep up the good work in Almería so that there are many more call-ups,' exclaimed UD Almería central defender Srđan Babić, who greatly values receiving the call-up to his home country's national team when there are two months to go before the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The Serbian pointed out that now the only important thing in his mind is his Club, LaLiga Santander and obviously the imminent league meeting in Mallorca. The Rojiblanco, who has been international in lower ranks until the Under-21 squad has been called up for the first time to the Serbia senior team, who are playing on 24 and 27 September against Sweden and Norway; UEFA Nations League matches, which will also be decisive for the World Cup's teamsheet.
Babić made it clear: 'I want to make the most of this opportunity. He also recalled how he learned the news: 'A person who works in the Serbian national team phoned me and then my agent, family and friends. I'm over the moon. It's always an honour and a pleasure to play for your national team, although right now, I'm focused only on RCD Mallorca.'
The UD Almería central defender acknowledged 'It's not just any call, it's two games of the League of Nations, no friendlies, and if we win both of them, it'll be easier to qualify for next year's European Championship. On top of that, they're taking place before the World Championship.' Serbia qualified for the World Cup in Qatar after beating Portugal. 'I watched that match and talked to many players from the national team to congratulate them because I know almost everyone and now I'm going to join them,' commented the player.
Serbia has been drawn in Group G of the World Cup together with Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon. When asked if he had ever dreamed of competing in the World Cup, he replied in all honesty 'I don't want to talk about the World Cup, but of these previous games because you never know... We'll see.'
