Babić: ‘I'm ready to play if the head coach decides it’

Mohamed El Assy presents Srđan Babić about whom he says ‘we were looking for a player with experience and easy adaptation’

UD Almeria General Director Mohamed El Assy presented left-footed centre-back Srđan Babić, about whom he said ‘he meets our objectives as we were looking for players with experience in Spain and who could adapt easily within the Second Tier. We wish him all the best as part of our team.’

Well, Babić has adapted in no time. In fact, the 25-year-old expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the Club for their trust and the welcome he has been given by his new team-mates ‘I’ve been here for a week and I feel as if I were at home.’

Babić might be only 25 but he has great experience including in Spanish football as he played for Real Sociedad ‘B’ and competed in LaLiga SmartBank with Reus on loan from the San Sebastian-based club. As a consequence, he knows how to play football in our country and speaks fluent Spanish, which greatly facilitates his adaptation, especially when upon arrival he was talking to Maraš, who told him a lot about the Club and Almeria city.

Taking everything into account, he did not hesitate to point out ‘when I came here, I spoke with the head coach and with the coaching staff and I told them that I wasn’t at my best. Right now, after almost 10 days, I feel much better. I think I'm okay to play the next game if the coach decides it and besides, I also know the principles in the game that the head coach seeks.’

The Banja Luka-born is 1.94m, a great heading defender who will contribute energy, intensity and strength. Regarding his new team, he considers ‘I’m sure that we’re going to have a good season because we have a very strong squad as I noticed in the last game against Malaga. Individually, there’re great players, so we have to be optimistic although this is a very long league with 42 Matchdays and we’ll have to stick together. With Red Star, the club that has loaned him out, he played two Champions Leagues and has also played in the Portuguese Top Tier, so the defender considers that regardless of his strength, he will also bring bags of experience.
