The Rijiblancos return to work ahead of the 2026/27 season, with newly-appointed Xavier García Pimienta taking charge and several new faces joining the squad
UD Almería officially began preparations for the 2026/27 season on Monday, marking the start of the Club’s new sporting project. Players who remain from last season were reunited with the Club’s summer signings as excitement builds for a new chapter under head coach Xavier García Pimienta, who met many of his squad for the first time.
The squad will gradually come together over the coming days, with new arrivals Brian Cipenga, Jorge Pulido, Quim Junyent, Álex Sola and Andrej Popović joining the group, alongside Miguel de la Fuente and André Horta, whose moves have been made permanent after the Club exercised their purchase options. They will link up with returning first-team players, including recently renewed Léo Baptistão, as well as Alejandro Pozo, who returns after his loan spell.
The team are back after a 3-week break following an extended 2025/26 campaign, which concluded with the promotion play-offs. With 6 weeks remaining until the start of the new season, Monday and Tuesday will be dedicated to the players completing their routine medicals and fitness assessments in staggered groups, while others begin their first sessions with the new coaching staff.
On Wednesday, the squad will take to the training pitch for the first full session of pre-season as preparations begin for a campaign in which UD Almería will once again be aiming for promotion.
