Arnau Puigmal: ‘We need the fans; we do feel their massive support on the pitch’

The 21-year-old midfielder says: ‘I’m working hard to be in contention to feature against SD Ponferradina on Monday’

The UD Almeria fans unwavering support does not go unnoticed for the Rojiblancos. ‘We need the fans; we do feel their massive support on the pitch,’ Arnau Puigmal Martinez told UDA Radio, the Club's official radio station as he is hoping to be available for selection for the next game after being ruled out in Huesca. In fact, he stated ‘I’m working hard to be in contention to feature against SD Ponferradina on Monday. The Catalan footballer sprained his ankle when stepping on a lawn sprinkler on the Anexo training ground and as he said, ‘fortunately, it gave me a scare but it turned out all right in the end. I’m feeling good.’

The 21-year-old midfielder considers the draw achieved last Sunday at El Alcoraz to be important, since, as he explained, ‘our objective was to clinch a victory, but circumstances meant that we only bagged one point. Anyway, if we win on Monday, that point will be good enough because playing with nine players is very difficult.’  He then added ‘we’re not going to focus on refereeing decisions. It happened as it was and that's it. We don't want excuses. We have to work harder and become the best version of ourselves again.’

Arnau stressed ‘there are eight games to go, which are going to be eight finals since everyone in the league wants to get points; those teams at the bottom to stay up while those at the top to move up. There won’t be a single easy game left; quite the opposite.’ On that note, he pointed out ‘I'm sure our rivals will drop points. We have to take advantage of it and for that, we just have to focus solely on our work and games. I’ve got full confidence in my team.’

The UD Almería footballer considered that ’defending well is going to be of the utmost importance in this stretch because we’re always going to have chances to score with the players we have up front. And if we make an effort not to concede, everything will be fine.’  ‘Now is when the most important moment of the season comes and we all have to stick together in order to achieve the goal,’ advised the midfielder.

On a personal note, he expressed his feelings ‘it's my first year playing as a professional and I'm very happy and comfortable in Almería. I demand a lot of myself and I'm really ambitious. I know I can score more goals and give more assists. I want to improve.’
