Arnau Puigmal: ‘Mathematically we’re in a good position but football is more than science’
The central midfielder invites everyone to see ‘the glass half full’ and expresses his deepest wish to win for the fans in Leganés this Sunday
An extraordinary football season is fast reaching its finale as UD Almería face their last game of the season within automatic promotion spots but with the utmost caution: ‘Here you can see the glass half full or half empty and I see it full. I’m utterly convinced of victory. The equaliser against AD Alcorcón was crucial and now we must learn from our mistakes. All we have to do this Sunday is to repeat what we’ve done all year long, keeping the ball and playing…playing our football will help us win,’ Arnau Puigmal told the Club official media.
His latest stoppage-time goal against AD Alcorcon under the Mediterraneo lights triggered off different permutations to win promotion even without victory: ‘well, the equaliser was crucial but I’ve got no doubts that our objective is none other than to win against CD Leganés,’ he assured at the same time that the 21-year-old pointed out ‘I liked Lega [CD Leganes] a lot in the first half of the season and they’ve got high quality players.’ No one in the dressing room is focused on the statistics: ‘Mathematically we’re in a good position but football is more than science and anything is possible. We’re only looking for victory.’
The mood of the UD Almeria squad is getting better and better according to Arnau: ‘The first hours after the match I sensed a tense atmosphere; but today I’ve seen the team training incredibly and according to that, I fully trust.’ The players are eager to make up for their past bitter disappointment: ‘We want to win for the fans. We want to be top-tier players and I believe we deserve it.’
