Back where it all began: Andrés Fernández returns to Almería

Veteran goalkeeper signs with UD Almería until 2027 after lifting LaLiga Hypermotion title

UD Almería have secured the services of seasoned goalkeeper Andrés Fernández, who returns to the city where he made his LaLiga debut nearly 2 decades ago.

The 36-year-old signs as a free agent on a deal that runs until 2027, becoming the Club’s 6th summer signing as they prepare for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

With over 500 professional appearances and 18 seasons in Spanish football, Fernández brings a wealth of experience and composure between the sticks.

The new addition arrives fresh off a title-winning season with Levante UD in LaLiga Hypermotion, where he was a key figure throughout the campaign, only stepping aside for the final fixture once promotion to Primera was secured.

Fernández’s journey comes full circle in Almería — the same city where he made his top-flight debut for CA Osasuna on 21 October, 2007 at the Juegos Mediterráneos Stadium. Back then, he replaced the starting goalkeeper midway through the match, marking the beginning of a distinguished footballing career that would take him across LaLiga, Europe, and even to the Champions League with FC Porto.

A former 'Zamora Trophy' winner with SD Huesca in 2011, Fernández is known for his excellent aerial command, sharp reflexes and calm leadership both on and off the pitch. Nearly 200 appearances in Spain’s top division and spells at clubs such as Villarreal CF, Granada CF, and CA Osasuna have shaped him into one of the most reliable keepers of his generation.

Now, the man once thrust into the spotlight at UD Almería returns as a proven leader, ready to anchor the defence for the Rojiblancos with the same determination that has defined his long and successful career.
