Almeria’s 23-man squad really fired up for the first game

Clubs are permitted to select a maximum of twenty-three players. Juan Ibiza is officially on board. Charter flight on Sunday morning

José María Gutiérrez, head coach of UD Almería, has named 23 players in the team roster according to the new LaLiga regulations. The game is taking place this Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., in Albacete. Bear in mind that 18 players could be listed in the referee's match report score sheet before the coronavirus pandemic, yet that number has increased by 5. Moreover, five substitutions are allowed during the 90 minutes.

Almost all the squad will be travelling tomorrow. This time around, there are some new changes compared to the previous games before the championship was suspended three months ago. Juan Ibiza is back on his feet and has been the surprise inclusion in the squad list as he has fully recovered from the serious injury he picked up at the beginning of the season. In fact, he only played two games. Just over nine months later, he is getting back into the swing of things and has been called up by José María Gutiérrez to Sunday’s match alongside his team-mates Petrovic and Lazo, who were suffering from muscular pain in mid-March. On the contrary, Ozornwafor and Coric have been left out of the list.

The Rojiblancos carried out their last training session at the Anexo training ground, in which they worked on tactical drills and strategy. This Sunday, at 10.15 a.m., the squad are flying charter to Albacete, observing strict health and safety guidelines at all times.

The players who have been called up by the head coach are the following:

Goalkeepers: Sivera (1) and Fernando (13).

Defenders: Francis (2), Romera (4), Balliu (20), Juan Ibiza (15), Maras (18), David Costas (24), Iván Martos (3) and Jonathan Silva (12).

Forwards: Juan Muñoz (11), Darwin Núñez (21) and Iván Barbero (36).
