UD Almería and Girona FC, one of LaLiga's biggest rivalries
Both teams will be playing their 23rd official match at the Montilivi Stadium in Spanish professional football. UD Almeria have achieved better results against their arch-rivals
One of the biggest LaLiga rivalries is UD Almería's ongoing battle with Girona FC as they have locked horns twenty-two times in Spanish professional football so far, between the second tier and the top flight. UD Almería have achieved better results against their Catalan arch-rivals in their encounters since the Rojiblancos have won 10 games and drawn 6.
Although the current runs of both teams are very different in the 2023/24 season, UD Almería will seek to continue tipping the balance in their favor on Sunday. The battles against Girona FC, who are one of the Indálicos' opponents they have faced the most times, have been full of excitement because there has always been a lot at stake. So much so that UD Almería earned promotion to the Primera Division in the 2012/13 campaign after beating the Catalans in the play-off final.
Then, in the 2019/20 campaign and in the following 2020/21season, it was Girona FC that had the last laugh by defeating UD Almería in both play-offs semi-finals.
Last season, the Rojiblancos suffered a severe defeat at the Montilivi (6-2), which was the last match held between both sides and those who suffered that defeat are now very eager to take revenge, as UD Almería midfielder Lucas Robertone has stated this week at a press conference, who recalled their away victories clinched in previous years in LaLiga.
As for the Segunda Division: the score was 1-2 in the past 2021/22 campaign and 0-1 in the 2020/21 term. UD Almería emerged victorious in 5 games, recorded a couple of fiery draws and lost 4 times against the Blanc-i-Vermells in the 9 fixtures played at the Montilivi.
