Almería Women win ‘Elche’ festivities trophy as pre-season preparations continue

UD Almería Women won the pre-season trophy organised on the occasion of the Elche city festivities during the weekend after beating the home team on penalties with the score of 3-4 after a goalless stalemate at the final whistle. In general lines, the Rojiblancas played confidently against an in-form team who compete in second tier Liga Reto.

The girls led by head coach Agustín Sánchez are understanding each other better and they showed it in their visit to Elche Women. The Indálicas’ gaffer picked a starting XI formed by Ani, Lucía, Laura, Esther, Eva, Anita París, Marta Paz, María, Jessi, Irene and Fátima. Sarita, Paqui, Mireya, Adriana and Sonia entered the pitch in the second half.

Almería Women had quite a few opportunities to score. At the same time, the hosts showed their dribbling skills and ball control in the match, but they also squandered chances as the girls from Almeria defended brilliantly to avert danger.

Both sides were level when the referee called time on a hard-fought pre-season contest that went to a penalties shoot-out. Keeper Ani save the first while Adriana, Nerea, Sarita and Paqui scored from 12 yards to achieve the victory (3-4).

UD Almería Women will continue with pre-season preparations this week facing Real Murcia Women on Wednesday and UD Águilas Women on Saturday. These will be the two last friendlies before the Primera Nacional (Group IV) competition kicks off on 5 September with the Indálicas hosting Las Rozas.
