Almería Women fall to a 2-0 defeat to Granada Women ‘B’
The Indálicas were down on their luck as the curtain-raiser finished in a convincing 2-0 triumph to the hosts
UD Almería Women fell to a 2-0 defeat against Granada Women ‘B’ on Matchday 3. In general, it was a highly competitive match even though the opponents won by two goals. The home team girls were more fortunate in front of goal, converting two clear scoring opportunities.
Head coach Agustín Sánchez picked out a starting XI formed by Ani; Lucia, Mireya, Esther, Flores, Anita París, Marta Paz, Paqui, María, Eva and Fátima. The Rojiblancas enjoyed the first clear-cut opportunity. With 18 minutes gone, Maria started a good play in which she managed to dribble past the goalkeeper, but out of the blue a defender got in the way.
After that, it was an end-to-end game, however, Granada Women ‘B’ changed this situation by achieving the 1-0 until half-time. Amanda was the first goal scorer within half an hour of play.
After the match restart, UD Almería Women went all out for the tie. A breakaway by Eva 50 minutes in found peer Fatima, whose shot was deflected by a defender from Granada. The Indálicas claimed a penalty on the play, but the ref understood that it should not have been whistled to the discontent of the visiting team, who considered that the action was worthy of being awarded a penalty.
The Rojiblancas’ gaffer wanted to make the right changes up front and in the 60th minute, he introduced Sarita and Adriana on the field. His players continue to push forward in search of an equaliser, but a fine effort by Fatima inside 65 minutes narrowly went wide. Then, Sonia also entered, adding more power to the final third.
UD Almería Women made their presence known in the shooting zone. It was then when Granada Women ‘B’ hit hard to double their lead (2-0). It was the 85th minute and there would be no more outstanding events in a match in which the effectiveness of the hosts was key in the result.
The Rojiblancas have a week off ahead of them, since the Primera Nacional Women's league will not resume until the first weekend of October. At that time, Cádiz CF Women will be their next rivals.
