Almeria to lock horns with Girona over promotion to top flight one more time
The play-off semi-final first leg takes place at Montilivi this Wednesday (kick off 9:00 p.m. Spain Time)
History repeats itself. This is the moment of truth for the Rojiblancos as they will be fighting for promotion to Primera Division. For the second consecutive year, UD Almería will be taking on Girona FC in the play-off semi-finals. The first leg takes place this Wednesday at the Montilivi Stadium (kick-off 9:00 p.m. CEST) while the second has been scheduled for Saturday, 5 June at the same time but this time at the Juegos Mediterraneos.
The two in-form sides go into the play-offs with total confidence and good vibes. The players from Girona FC have climbed into the play-offs following an unbeaten run of results in the championship while the team from Andalusia strolled to victory over Sporting de Gijón last Sunday. Well, these upcoming qualifying rounds are quite a different story.
The Rojiblancos first-team have taken part in their last footy practice before embarking on another play-off adventure at the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium. The UD Almeria travelling squad will be flying charter to Girona this Wednesday morning (10:00 a.m. CEST). Head coach Rubi will not be able to count on centre-back Jorge Cuenca, who is away on international duty playing for Spain U21s in the Euros, and Brian Rodríguez, who has just joined the Uruguay team.
