Almería start competing on matchday 3 of the SmartBank League
The Rojiblancos will start the competition on the weekend of 26th and 27th September
LaLiga has just approved that the new 2020/21 season kicks off on the weekend of 12th and 13th September, although in the case of UD Almería it will be a bit later, on matchday 3 (26th and 27th September), being postponed their first two fixtures. In any case, the Spanish Football Federation will have to ratify the decision, apart from the fact that the start will also be subjected to the Government and the health authorities’ approval depending on the coronavirus pandemic.
On the grounds that having entered the play-off competition for promotion to the Spanish top flight and having finished the 2019/20 campaign much later than most of the teams, who did so on 20th July, has led the teams who battled it out in order to move up to the Spanish top-tier to be given more time to start their pre-season.
Bear in mind that UD Almería ended their participation in the play-off competition last Sunday, 16th August, almost a month after the end of the regular phase of LaLiga SmartBank.
Producing the full LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank fixture list for 2020/21 is no simple business. The draw for the Spanish top-tier and second-tier schedules will soon take place at the headquarters of RFEF (Spanish Football Federation), although there is still no specific date to compile the fixture list.
