Almeria racked up 11 points to overtake Cadiz
On matchday 12 the cadistas were atop the table on 31 points ahead of the indalicos on 20 points. Three months later the rojiblancos are leaders
Almeria’s most successful era is the present one. The team managed to bag eleven points to catch Cádiz in order to climb into first place and snatch their leadership. On matchday 12, the cadistas were 31 points in the standings, while the indalicos were runners-up with 20 points. Back then, everything seemed practically decided and it was meant to be an intriguing race for the second automatic promotion spot.
However, three months later, Almeria have been able to rise up to first place in the table. UD Almeria and Cadiz CF are even on points (45) but the indalicos are leading the pack courtesy of their superior goal-average. In addition, SD Huesca sit third in the table eleven points behind Almeria, while the rojiblancos have an 11-point lead over the first team out of the play-offs promotion spots, Girona.
Almeria, with their ups and downs, have all the reasons to believe that they will continue their upward trajectory this campaign. Almeria got their 2020 off to the best start bagging nine points. The rojiblancos have always been in the promotion zone. They have been leaders four times (matchdays 1, 6, 7 and 24), runners-up twelve times, seven times sitting third and once in the fourth place of the table. It is noteworthy that Almeria have been one of the most consistent teams in the SmartBank League, never finishing lower than fourth.
