Almeria put league competition on brief pause to play second cup tie in Soria

Almería will be playing on a freezing cold Wednesday. The weather is expected to reach zero degrees Celsius at the game kick-off. There will be some spectators in the stands

Almería put the league competition on brief pause to turn their attention to the Spanish Cup, without forgetting next Sunday’s match against Leganés. The objective now is Wednesday’s Spanish Cup tie in the city of Soria (kick-off time 12 p.m. CET), where the Rojiblancos and the Numantinos will face off in the Copa del Rey second round, which will also be played in a single-leg tie.

Club Deportivo Numancia de Soria compete in third-tier Segunda Division ‘B’, although with their sights set on returning to the Professional Football League (LFP), in which they found their place for many years until last season.

Indeed, the cup tie will be complicated not only because of the adversaries but also the wintry weather that Almería will brave in Soria (Castilla y Leon). The weather forecast predicts zero degrees Celsius at the time of the game, yet the Castilian city of Soria will welcome Almeria with temperatures below zero on Tuesday afternoon.

Another fact to take into account is that CD Numancia de Soria are allowed to have a maximum of 1,400 spectators into the stadium. Almeria will play for the first time in front of fans and supporters since the Covid-19 pandemic first hit Europe in March 2020.

The Rojiblancos close out 2020 by playing three games in just 7 days. In the same way, the Andalusian team started off 2021 facing three matches in one week. After taking on Ponferradina on home soil, Jose Gomes’ men are playing in Soria on Wednesday and will be kitted out to compete against direct rivals Leganes, who are also fighting in the race for promotion, on Sunday.
