Almería focus on Alcorcon after asserting themselves and further cementing their spot on the top-four
The Rojblancos cut the gap on points to leaders and gained the upper hand over nearest direct rivals after matchday 34
UD Almería came out stronger from matchday 34 of LaLiga SmartBank and are now focusing on their next dangerous and complicated home game against Alcorcón, a side with Almeria-born Fran Fernández’s in the driving seat. The appointment is taking place on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., at Juegos Mediterraneos, where the Rojiblancos plan to redeem themselves after their last home defeat to Las Palmas and be at the top of their game against a visiting team who have not lost yet on their travels.
The UD Almeria’s squad resumed training at their training base, the Anexo, after having a well deserved day-off last Sunday, the same day they arrived from Zaragoza. The players in the starting XI at La Romareda had an active recovery session and the rest of the footballers were exercising for a longer period of time and more intensively with small-sided games aimed at working on possession, pressure and aggressiveness, tactical drills that were shown in Zaragoza last Saturday. All players are available, while Kaptoum and Lazo continue to recover from injuries.
The three vital points picked up on the away game in Zaragoza place Almería in a good position since automatic promotion is one step away. Meanwhile, José María Gutiérrez’s side also narrowed the gap on current leaders Cádiz, who are five points away. Huesca are nipping at the heels of Almeria two points adrift, while fifth-placed Elche are separated by six and Girona by seven. The latter are the last side that occupies the sixth place within the play-offs to win promotion to Primera.
There are morning training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Anexo training ground to prepare themselves ahead of their next complicated home game against Alcorcón, who are one of the best performers on opposition turf this season.
