Almeria-born Pilar Sánchez signs for UD Almería Women

She is 22 years old, plays as a centre-back and comes from Granada CF ‘B’

Pilar Sánchez Vilar, who defines football as a lifestyle and has practised it since she was a child, joins the first-team UD Almería Women squad for the 2020/21 season. The defender has been playing for Granada CF ‘B’ since the past 2017/18 season to the present, having made 15 appearances with the Nasrid club first-team, who compete in the second-highest division of women’s football in Spain called ‘Reto Iberdrola’ (Iberdrola challenge).

The 22-year-old player born in Roquetas de Mar (Almeria) moved to the city of Granada to study a degree in Sport and Exercise Science (CCAFD), combining her university studies with her passion for playing football. Pilar has just returned to her native Almeria to reinforce the team led by Carlos Hinojo.

UD Almería Women are waiting for the ‘Primera Iberdrola’ championship to kick off again, which is the highest level of league competition for women's football in Spain. Pilar feels enormously excited to belong to this Rojiblanco project. ‘At the time, I was really excited when I learned that Almería Women was born. I believe that this is a very ambitious project and that it is seriously committed to the future of women's football and the players of this land.’
