Almeria ‘B’ youngsters on the hunt for promotion spots

The Academy products welcome Huétor Tájar this Sunday (12:00 p.m.CET). Jordi Escobar will play the remainder of the season for the ‘B’ team

The UD Almería ‘B’ team return to the Tercera Division competition within group IX ‘A’ with Huétor Tájar’s visit to the Anexo pitch on Sunday (kick-off 12:00 p.m. CET). The homegrown players face the game, after being out of action last weekend for calendar reasons, with the possibility of moving into the promotion zone.

The next rivals sit third in the table. It is worth highlighting that the Granada-based team have played two more matches than Almeria ‘B’, since they have not yet rested and the Rojiblancos have postponed their game against Mancha Real on 28 February.

Almería ‘B’ are aware of the importance of winning by being able to outplay direct rivals. In addition, the Academy hopefuls are only three points behind the leadership and have played one less game than the other sides.

Fernando Santos, who will not announce the squad list in advance, could not count on Vertiz, since the right-back has to serve one-game ban after accumulating yellow cards. On the contrary, the Portuguese coach has more options in the squad with the new additions of keeper Curro Harillo and attacker Hugo Neves, as well as former first-teamer Jordi Escobar, who has joined the UD Almería second-team for the remainder of the season.

The fourth-tier Matchday-16 fixture (group IX ‘A’) is going to be held behind closed doors at the Anexo ground next to the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium (kick-off 12:00 p.m. CET).

The game can be watched live on Footters.
