UD Almería 'B' face blockbuster fixture against Recreativo in season opener

Alberto Lasarte’s young side aim to defy the odds in clash with newly-relegated giants from Huelva

UD Almería 'B' kick off their new campaign this Sunday at 12 noon with a blockbuster fixture against Recreativo de Huelva, a side recently relegated from the third-tier Primera RFEF. The opening-day clash at the UD Almería Stadium training ground promises to be a stern test for the youthful Indálicos, who are looking to build on last season’s near-miss in the promotion play-offs.

Head coach Alberto Lasarte has overseen a summer rebuild involving 12 new signings. 'It’s going to be difficult to get points in this match due to the strength and potential of the opponents,' he admitted. 'But standing up to anyone is part of our identity. Facing Recreativo is an extra motivation for us,' he added.

Despite AI predictions placing UD Almería 'B' in the relegation zone, Mr Lasarte is confident his side can prove the doubters wrong. 'We’re going to prove the machines wrong,' he said defiantly. 'This group is much tougher, but we’re ready to compete,' he stressed.

The Jaén native gaffer praised Recreativo as 'a very powerful side' with 'top-level players, a strong defence, dynamic midfield and plenty of attacking options.' He is hoping the fans will rally behind his young squad, reminding UD Almería season-ticket holders they can attend the match for free with their season cards.

Mr Lasarte's message is clear: 'This may be a team in transition, but they’re ready to fight from the first whistle.'
