Almería B cannot demonstrate their great scoring ability and lost 2-0 to Maracena

The Rojiblancos homegrown players were unable to draw level in the first minutes and headed back home empty handed

The UD Almería ‘B’ team suffered their first defeat of the season within group IX ‘A’ of the Tercera Division (fourth-tier in Spanish football) and were unable to react to an early goal from Maracena. The Rojiblancos youngsters, who created big chances to find the equaliser, continued without demonstrating their great ability to score a goal, which allowed the hosts to seal a victory after finding the net twice.

Fernando Santos picked a different starting XI with Raúl Caballero up front. In this way, the Almeria youngsters began the game with Lluís Tarrés, Vertiz, Aitor Puñal, Ricardo Carvalho, Luna, Tomás, Cerpa, Dani Albiar, Jean Marco, Fermín and the aforementioned forward.

Maracena had two good chances shortly after the kick-off ant off to a flyer. To start off with, Fran Bea hit the woodwork in a free kick, while, with just 5 minutes on the clock, Jorge Bolívar slammed in the opener.

Almería B tried to react after trailing 1-0. The first goal from the Granada-based team gave Almeria B a hard time but Nandinho’s boys tried hard to become the best version of themselves to fight back at the death to get something out of the game. So much so that Dani Albiar had the clearest opportunity for the Rojiblancos. The midfielder was left alone in a one-on-one with goalie Rubén, who came out with enough speed and avoided the tie. It was the 18th minute.

During the remaining time of the first half Almeria B were dominating. However, the pressure at hands of adversaries Maracena denied the attempts at goal of the Almeria Academy. Almeria B failed to show their scoring ability.

Already in the second half, the homegrown players continued to have more possession, yet without actually bothering Rubén. After several goal scoring opportunities, Molina sealed the victory by taking advantage of a rebound in the box after a shot saved by Lluís Tarrés.

Sergio Sanchís, who jumped on the pitch to play during the second forty-five minutes, quickened the attacking pace. Nonetheless, the effective defensive work of Maracena caused the result to remain the same and confirmed Fernando Santos’ team defeat.
