Almeria ‘B’ are determined to keep up challenge on the top with imminent derby

The youthful Rojiblancos aim to redeem themselves and beat arch rivals Poli Almeria

The UD Almería ‘B’ team are determined to redeem themselves to keep up the challenge on the promotion zone to Segunda Division ‘B’, so that they expect a victory in this weekend’s game against arch rivals Poli Almería. The Almeria derby within group IX ‘A’ in the Tercera Division will be played at the Anexo pitch next to the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium at 12 noon on Sunday.

The Academy squad list will not be announced until the morning of the contest, since the fact that the UD Almeria first-team are due to play their next league game on Saturday offers the possibility for those Almeria ‘B’ young players to be able to be chosen by Fernando Santos, 'Nandinho'. The coach has a new reinforcement in his team roster: Portuguese striker Hugo Neves.

Poli Almería led by the former UD Almería Women coach until last October, Carlos Hinojo, are enjoying a positive run of results with two back-to-back wins. The visitors have earned 13 points and they are sitting seventh in the table standings, yet the tight race for promotion means that the next opponents are 5 points behind the Almeria second-team. Nandinho’s boys have played one less game.

The two meetings between Almería ‘B’ and Poli Almeria in the Tercera Division have resulted in victories for the Almeria products. In this regard, the youngsters wrapped up a 1-3 victory over their adversaries in the 2019/20 campaign - the reverse game was not played due to the cancellation of the championship because of Covid-19 - and this year Poli Almeria succumbed to a 0-3 reverse at the hands of the Almeria ‘B’ hopefuls.

Despite the aforementioned stats, Fernando Santos' boys do not want to break their concentration with the main objective of winning again after sharing out the points with Maracena on the last matchday.

It will be a behind closed doors clash complying with the health protocols that have been laid out by the Andalusian and Spanish government to prevent the spread of Covid-19. However, fans and supporters can tune in and watch live on Footters.
