Rubi: 'The match against Real Zaragoza is crucial for UD Almería'

Emotional tribute to Joaquín Amérigo, a beloved Canal Sur Radio journalist from Almería who passed away this week. High stakes for UD Almería

UD Almería head coach Rubi described the upcoming match against Real Zaragoza as 'very important,' urging fans to give their full support to the team in what he emphasised as a must-win game. The match is seen as a potential turning point that could provide the team with a much-needed boost in the standings.

The press conference took an emotional turn when Rubi paid tribute to Joaquín Amérigo, a beloved Canal Sur Radio journalist from Almería who passed away this week. Amérigo had covered the team for decades and Rubi, who attended his wake, asked for a moment of silence in his honour. 'That's why we have this important title,' Rubi stated, acknowledging the emotional significance of the week.

The Catalan coach highlighted the team’s recent form, with UD Almería having collected 7 out of the last 9 points. 'I hope better times are coming,' he said, expressing optimism about the team's growth. Despite past mistakes, Rubi remained confident in his players' ability to bounce back and improve quickly. He pointed out the evident progress on the defensive side of the game and reiterated that the team were training with clear strategies to build on recent performances.

Turning his attention to the opposition, Rubi expressed caution about Real Zaragoza, despite their struggles this season. 'They're struggling to get going, but they have players with extensive experience in this division,' he explained, noting the Maños' strong defensive record. The team have conceded only 8 goals so far and apart from FC Andorra, no other side has managed to score more than once against them. 'They're going to make things very difficult for us,' Rubi concluded, acknowledging their threat despite Real Zaragoza's own offensive challenges.

With the match looming, the Vilassar de Mar native remains focused on his the Indálicos' preparation and the importance of securing a positive result against a resilient Real Zaragoza side.
