8-1: Rout: UD Almería Women 1 point from group title
A Dominant derby win over Pavía puts the Rojiblancas on the brink of the Tercera RFEF crown
UD Almería Women delivered a statement performance on Sunday, thrashing Pavía 8–1 in the Almería derby and moving to within 1 point of being crowned champions of their group IV in the Tercera RFEF women's tier.
With only 4 match weeks remaining in the regular season, the Rojiblancas are now on the verge of securing top spot and taking the next step toward promotion.
From the opening whistle, UD Almería Women looked in complete control and quickly imposed their attacking quality. The goals flowed throughout the match as Ángela Cañadas led the charge with a brilliant hat-trick. Gisela added a brill brace of her own, Romero also struck twice and Marta completed the rout with the 8th goal of the afternoon.
The emphatic derby victory marks another major step toward UD Almería Women’s main objective this season.
However, the promotion picture in the Tercera RFEF remains complex. As previously reported, only one of the 18 group champions will gain automatic promotion based on a coefficient system that considers the number of opponents, wins, goals scored and conceded. The remaining group winners will enter the promotion play-offs, which will consist of a single two-legged knockout tie.
For the Indálicas, the mission is not only to win their group, something that now looks almost certain, but also to improve their statistical record compared to the champion of the other Andalusian group. At the moment, the team is meeting those requirements.
Fans will have to wait a little longer to celebrate, as there is no league action next weekend. The decisive moment could arrive on the weekend of 21/22 March.
