3-2: Almería Women never give up and deliver great comeback

The Rojiblancas overturn a two-goal deficit against Cacereño Women to achieve their third consecutive win

UD Almería Women never give up! The girls achieved an epic victory, the third in a row, against the Carcereño Women ‘B’ team. Not surprisingly, the Indálicas had to fight back from 2-0 down to take all three points. Just before the break, Esther and Marta Paz scored to draw level, while after a second period of Rojiblancas’ dominance, Sarita earned her name on the scoresheet to claim victory (3-2) in front of the fans who danced a jig of delight at the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium.

The start was the worst imaginable for Almeria Women, since the visitors were effective and doubled their lead in just 16 minutes. The first goal in the 3rd minute was after a free-kick taken by Inma Pérez, which Mireia finished off. In this action, the goalkeeper from Almeria had to be replaced by Sara when she was injured. It was after this when a long ball fell at the feet of opponent Sonia, who slammed in the second. Almeria Women were trailing by two.

Juanfran Maleno’s side grew into the game as the minutes passed. It was as if the two goals against had not taken their toll, which would be the team's main asset to tie before half-time. After several squandered chances, Esther started a comeback on 43 minutes by heading in a corner-kick (1-2).

Almería Women were building momentum on the Emilio Campra Youth Stadium artificial turf and Marta Paz grabbed a scorcher before the interval (2-2).

The Indalicas took most possession of the ball during the second half. Juanfran Maleno knew how to read perfectly from the bench how the things panned out. So much so that the clearest scoring opportunities were created by the hosts, highlighting an action in which Fátima dribbled past the keeper, but missed the shot and María’s breakaway, who had only been in action for a few seconds, hit the side netting.

The whole team were working perfectly until Cacereño Women were almost deactivated. In fact, the visitors would only create one more chance 89 minutes in through María Herrero, who hit the post. However, she got a fright because on the next play it was 3-2.

‘Almería never give up’. With the contest already in added time, Marta Paz took a corner-kick and Sarita finished off and sparked a wave of euphoria with a well-deserved and epic triumph, which also allows the Indálicas to look at the promotion spots.

With numerous cheers and chants, the final whistle confirmed Almeria Women’s third consecutive Primera Nacional win (Group IV).
