2-4: UD Almería 'B' stun CD Extremadura with late drama to claim 3 vital points
The UD Almería prospects' resilient performance sees Salmerón’s side snatch a 2-4 win in added time at the league Leaders' ground
UD Almería 'B' delivered a sensational comeback to defeat Group IV leaders CD Extremadura 2-4 in a thrilling encounter at the Francisco de la Hera Stadium. The UD Almería prospects, led by José María Salmerón, took all 3 points in dramatic fashion with 2 added-time goals, further bolstering their resurgence under their new head coach.
Despite a challenging start to the season, the ‘B’ team have been steadily improving and their latest victory secured after a relentless, never-say-die performance, showcases the belief and grit that has been instilled since Salmerón’s arrival. This was their 3rd consecutive match unbeaten, with 2 wins and a draw, though relegation remains a concern due to their poor start to the campaign.
The match unfolded as a high-energy affair, with CD Extremadura, undefeated at home prior to this encounter, dominating much of the possession. However, UD Almería 'B' remained composed, holding firm at the back and looking dangerous on the counter. After a first half filled with back-and-forth action, the second half saw the game take an electrifying turn.
Marciano gave the visitors the lead just a minute after the restart, but CD Extremadura responded with 2 quick goals to take a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute. With the clock ticking down, Salmerón’s substitutions proved decisive. In the 87th minute, Hou levelled things up, before completing his brace in the 90+2' to put the visitors ahead. Taufek sealed the victory in the 90+7' with a clinical finish on the counter, leaving the home side stunned.
Despite the win, tensions flared in the dying moments of the match as Mr Salmerón was shown a straight red card in the 88th minute following an altercation with the ref, and skipper Joan was also booked.
