2-3: Almeria missed a great opportunity

Despite the leaders of the pack defeat, Almeria did not manage to keep up with Cadiz. Almeria sit second in the table

The UD Almeria missed a great opportunity to get points and keep up with the leaders after losing the game against Ponferradina in the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium. It was not the rojiblancos day and did not keep up the pace during the game. Although Darwin found the net first, the visitors got back into the game and ended up winning 2-3. This is only the third defeat of the Almeria team in the League and the first since José María Gutiérrez started coaching the team. This loss brings their winning streak of eleven consecutive games to an end.

It all started as a dull game. None of the teams found a way to connect and could not put it in the box. Of course, Almeria showed their dribbling skills, especially Darwin Núñez. In fact, on the 23rd minute, the Uruguayan striker caused a penalty that helped the team making it 1-0.

The UD Almeria players felt relieved once they scored. Then the Ponferradina staged a stunning comeback. Nevertheless, the rojiblancos went into halftime being on the lead.

In the second half, Almeria did not find the best version of themselves, which allowed the visitors to get back into the game and score 3 times. Almeria had no choice but to look for the victory, and that characteristic ‘DNA’ of the Almeria team was displayed in the final stretch. Ponferradina struggled to defend their goal, while the rojiblancos kept on attacking. In addition, Juan Muñoz brought hope to make it 2-3 in the 79th minute. One of our last-minute goals was ruled offside because of stoppage time.
