2-2 Close but no victory once again
The Rojiblancos started the better of the two Andalusian sides and took the lead, however, Sevilla FC, in the 81st and 85th minutes, turned it around. Marezi grabbed the leveller in a nail-biting and frantic added time to rescue a point
UD Almería managed to rescue a point in the final minutes of the home game against Sevilla FC, who started trailing but turned the score around in five minutes with two goals netted in the 81st and 85th minutes. To the guests' surprise, in a frantic added time, Marezi grabbed the leveller in the 90+5' minute, leaving four more minutes remaining of pure tension with both teams' subs and coaching staff members outside the dugouts, the fans biting their nails and with the feeling that the first victory of the season could be achieved against the Sevillistas, but it was not possible. The Rojiblancos showed their grit and determination to tie a game when they were trailing 1-2 in the final minutes.
Head coach Gaizka Garitano introduced new faces to the starting XI. César Montes regained a centre-back spot, Edgar operated as a defensive midfielder and Lopy was handed out a starting spot in the midfield again. The rest of the players were the same as in the previous match against Celta de Vigo, including Luka Romero, after the big scare at the Balaidos.
During the opening 45-minutes, there was plenty of activity in the midfield and with no team pressing high into the final thirds. The Sevillistas and the Rojiblancos created some threatening situations during the first half an hour, however, the visitors stepped up a gear and took control of the ball and engineered the clearest chances. In fact, keeper Maximiano began to claim himself as the best player of the game, blocking the most dangerous opportunities for Seville FC.
UD Almería managed to find a response from these difficult minutes and with 38 minutes on the clock, Adrián Embarba, making the most of a brilliant assist from Jonathan Viera, opened the scoring through a low shot taken from a wide area. The Rojiblancos regained momentum and were close to doubling their lead with another link-up Embarba - Viera, yet with the roles reversed, this time the assist would be booted by the Madrid-born and the shot from the Canary Islands native, although his attempt went over the Sevilla's goal. Garitano's men went into the interval the happier of the two sides (1-0).
The second half developed as it was expected, a Sevillian team taking the game to the hosts, who repelled all opportunities. The Rojiblancos were clear that their game plan was to try to put the game to bed thanks to counter-attacks, and in fact, they staged a couple of them to be able to do so, but they would not end up reaping a reward.
The guests continued to pile on the attack and the home team resisted, until the 80th minute, when Sevilla FC struck, levelling things up courtesy of Lukebakio's goal. UD Almería were taken aback by that goal, without the ability to react and Sevilla FC took advantage of this to fire home the second. Devastated UD Almería got their strength back and in the 90+5', Marezi grabbed a lovely equaliser to rescue a point.
There were still four minutes to go and the UD Almería loyal fans once again believed in the first victory. What if it comes tonight? Not tonight, UD Almería had to settle for a two-all draw...
