2-1: UD Almería 'B' claim first home win of season at the Anexo

The youthful Rojiblancos end their drought with a vital victory over Salerm Puente Genil, though survival remains a distant target

UD Almería 'B' finally returned to winning ways in Group IV of the Segunda RFEF after an 11-game spell without taking maximum points. The youth side secured a 2-1 victory over Salerm Puente Genil, their first home triumph of the season at the Anexo.

In their previous 10 matches at the Anexo ground, the young Rojiblancos had failed to win. They did manage a home victory earlier in the campaign at the Francisco Pomedio stadium in Huércal de Almería, while the Anexo pitch was undergoing reseeding work.

Despite the win, the objective of survival remains a long way off. Safety, currently marked by La Unión Atlético, whom UD Almería 'B' will visit next Sunday, are 12 points away. The relegation play-off spot, occupied by Salerm Puente Genil themselves, is 11 points clear.

With 10 matches remaining and several teams also positioned between UD Almería 'B' and those targets, the challenge is considerable. Still, Sunday’s triumph could prove to be a turning point in what would require a remarkable late-season surge.

The Academy Indálicos, who arguably deserved more from previous fixtures given performances that outweighed results, showed composure and balance on this occasion. They controlled their opponents while taking the initiative and creating danger.

Iker Burgos and Hou both threatened early on, but the breakthrough arrived in the 39th minute when Marciano headed home a left-wing cross from Martim Alberto to make it 1-0. The hosts went into the break ahead, thanks in part to an outstanding save from goalkeeper Jesús López, who denied the Puente Genil boys from the penalty spot.

The second half saw momentum swing both ways. After the visitors equalised through Alan Araiza in the 74th minute, UD Almería 'B' responded swiftly. Just 4 minutes later, Iker Burgos restored the lead with what proved to be the decisive goal.

The young Indálicos had to battle until the final whistle, but they held firm to secure a long-awaited 3 points at the Anexo.
