2-1: A costly mistake leaves UD Almería Women without points
The Rojiblancas tied against Real Unión de Tenerife Santa Cruz, but the hosts took advantage of the visitors' mistake within 92 minutes to claim victory
A costly mistake by UD Almería Women left the great performance put in by the red and whites unrewarded, as they managed to cancel out a goal from Real Unión de Tenerife in an even match. After 75 minutes, Jessi grabbed an equaliser to put her name onto the scoresheet (1-1), but it was within 92 minutes when a mistake made when playing the ball out of the defence, football reminded the Indálicas that the Segunda Division RFEF is a tough league and the hosts took advantage of that error to make it 2-1 and close out the game, leaving Álvaro García Búrdalo's Girls without a meritorious point.
UD Almería Women took on a team that had started the championship on the right foot, placing themselves at the top of the table due to their intensity. In the first minute of the game, a ball had crashed into the crossbar, although the visitors' reaction was immediate and after a good play by Angeles, Marisa was about to score.
The home team were the dominant side in final stretch of the first period. So much so that, in the 31st minute, the crossbar prevented a free-kick taken by Mar from ending up in the net and on the brink of half-time, it was a defender who took an attempt from Lorena under the sticks, who picked up a rebound from the goal and she nearly netted. It seemed impossible to break the deadlock at the interval (0-0).
The second half saw the team from Tenerife in charge, receiving the award with a goal in the 58th minute. A great cross whipped in by Nora was finished off by Cristi Medina with a header to put the hosts ahead, giving way to a match with the Indálicas having bossing things until, in the 75th minute, Jessi added a great goal to her tally.
Football reminded UD Almería Women that any mistake, and more so if it is made in a tier as demanding as the Segunda Division RFEF can lead to the worst outcome. A reverse pass from the Rojiblancas was blocked and Nora gave the 3 points to the islanders (2-1) when 92 minutes on the clock, and therefore leaving UD Almería Women with a negative result and without a reward for a great effort put in during the time.
