2-0: Heart-breaking moment as UD Almería Women's relegation is confirmed
The Rojiblancas tried their hardest to score against Union Viera until the final whistle, but the Canarian side bossed the game
UD Almería Women are mathematically relegated after losing 2-0 to Unión Viera in a match that was vital for the Rojiblancas in their fight for survival, but the home team had very clear ideas and in the first half, after half an hour, they were leading 2-0. UD Almería Women tried their hardest but failed to score, so they will unfortunately fall down to a lower division.
The match kicked off with Unión Viera, playing at home and with their excited fans filling their stadium, going all out to grab the opening goal in the first minutes. UD Almería Women defended their half of the pitch with grit, but Patri converted from 12 yards in the 11th minute (1-0).
UD Almeria Women did not lower their arms and inside 20 minutes, Paqui was close to putting her name onto the scoresheet from a direct free-kick, but her strike crashed into the crossbar. Shortly after this squandered chance, a thumping shot from the edge of the box by the hosts grazed the visitors' goal. With 26 minutes gone, Paula slotted home the second to double Union Viera's lead (2-0). The Rojiblancas tried to react before the drifting down the tunnel, but the Canarian outfit prevented it.
The second forty-five minutes hardly had big chances from the Indálicas. Paula missed the only goal-scoring opportunity as her effort hit the crossbar.
UD Almería Women fought to the death until the final whistle, but the guests were down on their luck. Despite the Indálicas will add three points on the next Matchday since opponents Santa Teresa are out of the competition as a no-show team, UD Almería Women are mathematically relegated.
