2-0: UD Almería 'B' slump to defeat against Atlético Antoniano
Relegation fears grow as the visitors fall 15 points adrift with only 7 games remaining
UD Almería 'B' suffered a damaging 2–0 defeat away to Atlético Antoniano in Lebrija on Matchday 27 of the Segunda RFEF Group IV campaign.
The result leaves the young Rojiblancos side sitting 15 points adrift of league safety with just 21 points still to play for, meaning their survival hopes are now hanging by a thread.
Despite travelling with the clear objective of securing a must-win result, José María Salmerón’s side were unable to find a breakthrough. Key absences weakened the visitors and although they remained competitive throughout the contest, they struggled to engineer clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The hosts took the lead in the 28th minute when Álex Fernández converted from close range after meeting Raúl Rojas’ delivery from the left wing. The Antoniano players then sealed the victory late on, with Raúl Rojas calmly converting a penalty on 85 minutes.
UD Almería 'B' will now face two direct relegation rivals, Xerez Deportivo FC at home and UD Melilla away, before hosting CD Lorca Deportiva and CD Estepona in consecutive fixtures, the latter also battling to avoid the drop.
With time running out, every point will be crucial if the Andalusian side are to keep their slim survival chances alive.
