1-2: CD Badajoz edged out by high-flying Almeria Women

The Rojiblancas put up a brave fight against hosts Badajoz and wrapped up a well-deserved victory with goals from Paqui and Irene

Almería Women once again showed an example of huge effort to end up defeating current table leaders CD Badajoz (1-2). From the off, it was the gals from Almería who were highly ambitious to score the second-half late opener through Paqui. Shortly after, Irene doubled their lead and after the home team grew back into the game. The Rojiblancas did a sensational job in a bid to keep all three points, get the second back-to-back win and in addition, be the first team to defeat the girls from Badajoz this season. Once again, teamwork was the key to this triumph.

This was actually one of the most important tests away from home for Almeria Women this campaign. They had to pay a visit to tough rivals who until the final whistle were an undefeated team this season. For this reason, the Andalusian girls faced the league appointment acutely aware that concentration throughout the playing time would be decisive.

UD Almería Women went all out to be the first ones to score the opener of the game. So much so that 3 minutes in Jessi, who was returning to the starting XI after serving a one-game ban, picked up the ball on the wing, cut inside, entered the box and only the host keeper, with a great intervention, was able to avert danger.

During the opening 45 minutes, after a phase of an end-to-end activity, the opportunities created by the visitors followed one another, highlighting above the rest a powerful shot at the hands of Paqui from the edge of the area saved by the goalie from Badajoz, in which a defender took the subsequent Fatima’s fine attempt under the sticks.

The way of facing the contest that Almería Women were putting into practice with the arrival of the second half did not change. As a result of perfectly fulfilling the game plan, Jessi was about to slot home as soon as they returned from the changing room and in the 55th minute, the Indalicas’ goal was ruled out by the ref for offside. The Rojiblancas were doing really well on the pitch to get ahead. It was within 58 minutes when Paqui put her name onto the scoresheet thanks to team-mate Fatima (0-1). However, putting themselves in front did not stop their extremely ambition as they continued attacking until Irene, 10 minutes later, beat keeps Eva with a strike from the edge of the area to doubled their lead (0-2).

The brilliant performace displayed by Almería Women led the Extremeñas’ head coach to began to introduce attacking players, yet the Rojiblancas were well organised and did not create spaces. Needless to say, in the 71st minute, opponent Alicia found a way to earn her name on the scoresheet (1-2).

There was no doubt that Almeria Women’s sustained effort would reward them with all three points to clinch their second consecutive victory this 2021/22 season.
