1-2: Almería Women’s courage gives them a victory once again

The Rojiblancas went ahead against San Miguel. The hosts draw level through a dubious penalty and the visitors end up winning after scoring within 87 minutes

Almería Women’s courage gave them an all-important victory on the last Matchday of the first half of the competition. After many chances created by the Indalicas, it was in the second half when Paqui made it 0-1. Then the controversy came through a dubious penalty that levelled things. But after that, Fatima broke the deadlock in a corner-kick to seal the final win away from home (1-2).

UD Almería Women bossed things in the first half and thus, numerous chances were witnessed on a reduced-sized pitch. Fatima’s powerful shot hit to the post and Jessi squandered two strikes. The only time that San Miguel were seen to bother the goal defended by Sara would be as soon as the girls returned from the dressing room in an action that was denied by the crossbar.

The Rojiblancas continued to create goalscoring opportunities. First, Irene put the Plasencia keeper to the test, while Paqui - who had entered the field shortly before - did not hesitate to put her name onto the scoresheet (0-1). It was then when an unfair play arrived so the home team gals grew back into the game.

Only two minutes had passed when the ref awarded the hosts a dubious penalty that levelled things (1-1). It might seem that this situation was going to put the Indálicas down, but those who had that thought were wrong. Almeria Women once again pulled their socks up in a bid to win. With 87 minutes on the clock, Fatima finished off after a corner-kick and put her name onto the scoresheet to claim victory (1-2).

Almería Women closed out the first half of the competition just one point away from the automatic promotion spots. The second part of the season will begin with the girls visiting direct rivals Olympia Las Rozas on Sunday afternoon. This league meeting, which should have been played on 9th January, has been put forward following the agreement reached between both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation.
