1-2: Almería Women dogged by misfortune gifting own goal
Although the Rojiblancas had marvellous opportunities, they end up losing to Málaga Women ‘B’
The UD Almería Women's team experienced how unfair football can be first-hand. The Rojiblancas fell behind Málaga Women ‘B’ in a match with two unfortunate plays that enabled the visitors to take all three points (1-2). It was a game with Almeria creating great chances and dominating the game for a longer time.
Almeria Women took possession from the start. The team led by Álvaro García Búrdalo experienced no fear at all when it came down to playing between their lines to find the opposition goal. In addition, Almería piled the pressure high upfield, however the girls failed twice to beat goalie Hueto.
With 31 minutes on the clock, Ani found herself one-on-one with Ana Isabel and snuffed out for a corner with a sensational save. From that action, the Rojiblancas started to take more possession again and attempted to put it in the box several times but failing to find the back of the net.
Soon after, Almeria Women were dogged by misfortune. Pilar stole the ball in one of the Malaga’s counter-attacks, passed it back to her keeper and ended up scoring an own goal giving the opponents the lead before half-time (0-1).
Far from being affected by the fact that their rivals went ahead without even shooting between the sticks, UD Almería Women returned to boss things over the second half against a very well organised Málaga Women ‘B’ team. After a few minutes, team coach Álvaro brought in Nadia on 60 minutes to add more speed to his attacks. That was the right decision to be made. As soon as she jumped on the pitch, unmarked Nadia finished off a superb cross from Irene. It was the first ball that the player touched the ball wearing the No. 10 shirt to equalise to bring the score level (1-1).
Having said that, Almeria Women’s joy did not last long because misfortune struck once more. Pastora shot from long range within 64 minutes and the ball slipped between Ani's fingers (1-2).
The UD Almería girls went all out for a win, yet they were meant to be defeated. It should be highlighted that, with no time to regret, the Rojiblancas will face next Wednesday, 16 December the postponed fixture versus Santa Teresa ‘B’. This game is going to be played at 5:00 p.m. CET.
