1-2: Almería Women confident after derby win!
In the second half, Sarita and Marta Paz inspire the Rojiblancas to a superb comeback win over UCD La Cañada
UD Almería Women created a piece of Primera Nacional history after their first derby win following a new superb comeback. The Rojiblancas had to pull one back to draw level with neighbouring rivals La Cañada, who went ahead through a penalty after 15 minutes. It was then when the Indálicas gained momentum until they took the score to the final 1-2 with second-half goals from Sarita and Marta Paz.
It was a spirited first half with plenty of end-to-end activity and a glut of early chances. After a series of scoring opportunities, the home team took the lead. Rocío López converted from 12 yards with a quarter hour gone (1-0).
From then on, UD Almería Women began to boss things. So much so that the Rojiblancas presence in the opposing box was constant, creating more and more chances before the break, but they were not enough to cancel out the hosts’ opener.
However, as the second half beckoned, Sarita was the first contender to warn that the players led by head coach Álvaro García Búrdalo were going all out to score a new triumph. The Cádiz-born forward pounced from inside the box and tested the reflexes of the Cañaera goalkeeper shortly after the restart
Time was ticking away and Sarita did not hesitate when scoring after a corner-kick to take a point at least within 56 minutes (1-1). In fact, this equaliser gave way to endless chances whipped in by the Indálicas until Marta Paz - who had just entered the pitch- slotted home the second from the edge of the area to complete a superb comeback (1-2).
UD Almería Women made history by becoming the winners of this first derby. The defenders were fierce while goalie Sara was key after making a great save to claim victory. The Rojiblancas never give up and once more made it clear that they are one of the in-form teams over the course of this 2021/22 campaign.
