1-2: Almería Women beat Cádiz CF Women to avoid automatic relegation
The Rojiblancas sit ninth. If they remain in that place after the last Matchday, the girls will guarantee Primera Nacional safety.
UD Almería Women beat Cadiz CF Women 1-2 to sit ninth and avoid automatic relegation. The Rojiblancas dominated possession in a pulsating battle to achieve this vital triumph that gives the girls the wonderful opportunity to remain ninth, a spot that would guarantee Primera Nacional safety as teams will be adjusted in the league table.
The Indálicas had to pull their socks up as the hostesses carved out the better opportunities in the beginning. Keeper Andrea made a smart stop to push away Mona’s free-kick, while immediately afterwards, the woodwork prevented Almeria Women from trailing.
UD Almería Women built good momentum and inside 11 minutes, Paqui was knocked down within the box. The ref awarded the visitors a penalty and Anita Paris, as she did last weekend, was in charge of converting from 12 yards (0-1). The advantage made the Rojiblancas feel confident without allowing Cádiz CF Women to create many goal-scoring opportunities. In the closing minutes before the interval, both sides enjoyed attempts at goal. Fatima’s strike led to a corner-kick. Then, goalie Andrea averted danger once again.
The second forty-five minutes arrived with a new joy for the Almeria contenders: the second goal. With two minutes gone, Ana Carrascosa took the ball with determination towards the goal and managed to double their lead after shooting far post (0-2).
But there are no happy endings without suffering. It was the 56th minute when Valeria finished off after a corner-kick (1-2). Cádiz Women grew back into the game. After that goal, the girls in red and white stripes played to their strengths and continue to push for a third, however Nadia missed a penalty.
The victory of Almeria Women was not in danger because the girls did not lose possession of the ball until full-time to snatch three vital points, sit ninth and avoid automatic relegation. The Rojiblancas will have to go all out for a win on the last Matchday of the season to make sure they do not come tenth in the standings. That position could send them down to a lower league as the groups of Primera Nacional will be adjusted. As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, there were more teams included in the groups due to the suspension of last season.
