1-2: Almeria ‘B’ beat Real Jaén after one-point reward in the last two matchdays

The goals from Siles and Fermín inspire the homegrown players to a win in a hard-fought match

The UD Almería second team clinched a victory after two consecutive matchdays getting just one point out of six possible. The youth players beat Real Jaén away from home thanks to goals from scorers Siles and Fermín. The Almería Academy products displayed a brilliant performance in a hard-fought game littered with fouls at Nuevo Estadio de la Victoria until the final score (1-2).

Fernando Santos introduced new faces in the starting XI. Lluís Tarrés and Dani Albiar were the only youngsters, who train daily along with the first team, travelling together with the ‘B’ team. Aitor Puñal played as a midfielder for a change, and the Portuguese team coach brought on Manu and Sergio Sanchís. Vertiz returned to action after serving suspension.

It should be highlighted that the UD Almería Academy squad counted on the Almeria Under-19s ‘A’ players’ presence, since a total of six lads —Rocha, Andrei, Moha, Paco Benítez, Josemi and Adri—sat on the bench ready to be subbed.

The youth squad got off to the perfect start. The Rojiblancos took the initiative early on. So much so that within 14 minutes came the 0-1 courtesy of Siles, who was in charge of beating the keeper from Jaen with a deep shot within the box after a successful play created on the right flank.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Not happy with the opener, the home team managed to level the scoring. It was the 21st minute when, after a succession of rejections in the red and white defensive third, Miguel Montes scored the equaliser (1-1).

The Almeria ‘B’ youngsters were not up for a tie in their outing so that they did their very best to pull off the second. The next big moment in the match came in the 57th minute when Almeria won a penalty following a foul on Manu. His team-mate Fermín was in charge of converting (1-2).

Despite time was ticking away, the homegrown players showed great know-how to maintain the advantage. Thus, without Lluís Tarrés having to make any intervention, the Almeria visitors took three more points before focusing on the next postponed Wednesday’s game in Huétor Tájar.
