1-1: Stoppage-time heartbreak strikes again for UD Almería ‘B’
Real Jaén snatch a 90+5’ equaliser to deny the Academy prospects a much-needed win as their winless run stretches to 8 matches
Once again, added time proved cruel to UD Almería ‘B’. Just as it did a fortnight ago, stoppage time robbed the Academy side of a long-awaited victory, with Real Jaén salvaging a 1–1 draw through a 90+5’ goal at the Anexo pitch. The result leaves the Academy Rojiblancos still without a home win at their home ground this season and now 8 league fixtures without tasting victory, as the gap to safety continues to grow.
José María Salmerón’s side began the contest with composure rather than desperation. Well organised at the back and patient in possession, UD Almería ‘B’ waited for their moment and found it in the 20th minute. A poor clearance from the visiting goalkeeper was punished when Marciano picked out Josema, who finished confidently to put the hosts ahead.
The Academy prospects came close to extending their advantage before the break, with Iker Burgos striking the woodwork, but the score remained 1–0 at half-time. The second half followed a similar pattern: evenly contested, with UD Almería ‘B’ managing the game intelligently as Real Jaén pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Clear chances to seal the game did arrive. Once again, Iker Burgos was denied, this time shooting wide when through on goal. As the clock ticked down, tension filled the Anexo and memories of recent setbacks began to resurface. Those fears were realised in the 5th minute of added time when opponent Agus Alonso found the back of the net, silencing the home crowd and condemning the youthful Indálicos to yet another bitter draw.
What should have been a morale-boosting win turned into a familiar story of frustration, with 2 vital points slipping away at the death and UD Almería ‘B’ left battling both results and confidence as the season progresses.
