1-1: It seems impossible to win
UD Almería were close to achieving their goal. The team competed fiercely, played a great first half, went into half-time leading 0-1, but in the second half, Granada CF tied. In added time, clear-cut chances were not materialised
UD Almería competed fiercely and gave everything in the first half, they went into the break 0-1 with a stunner by Pubill, but in the second half, Granada CF tied. In added time, it was nine minutes, the Almeria team had the clearest chances, which however were not they materialised. The players gave everything, they went all out, although the point is insufficient and very little reward for the work done.
Mr Garitano, despite recovering Chumi, once again opted for the central defender pair who shone last Monday against Athletic Club with the likes of Edgar and Radovanović; on the left back opted for Bruno Langa, while on the more offensive side Embarba was out due to suspension of Ramazani and Jonathan Viera towards his debut to attack playing ahead of Baba and Robertone. Lopy stayed on the bench. These were the changes that the head coach made to the Starting XI to overcome Granada CF, who after two consecutive draws against Las Palmas and FC Barcelona, were looking for a victory to get closer to safety.
The Indálicos controlled the situation at all times to such an extent that they went to half-time 0-1, although the advantage could have been greater. Gaizka Garitano also asked for greater efficiency in attack and in the 8th minute, Marc Pubill, after winning a ball back, went inside and kicked a stunner from the edge of the area that made it 0-1. In the 12th minute, Embarba netted, and in the 22nd minute, his goal was disallowed for offside.
UD Almería attacked with discretion, moved the ball well in positional play. Arribas, in the 29th minute, narrowly missed a Choco Lozano's cross, and in the 44th minute, a corner-kick taken by Robertone was finished off by Édgar and the ball grazed the crossbar.
It was a shame considering the attitude, dedication and hard work. The Indálicos deserved a better result at the end of the first period.
Granada CF, as expected, went all out in the second half and went on to take the initiative and have opportunities, but UD Almería knew how to suffer. It was an end-to-end match, although without speculating because they were still looking at the opponents' goal.
Embarba, in the 69th minute, squandered a new chance when he took a free-kick from the edge of the box. Next, after 75 minutes, Uzini equalised after a loss of the ball by UD Almería. Shortly after, the ref whistled a penalty when he understood that Marc Pubill had knocked down Maouassa; the VAR corrected it. The tie was not worth it for either team and until the end, within 9 minutes of added time again, the game was broken up with arrivals to one area and another.
With 94 minutes on the clock, UD Almería had the clearest chances, but the effectiveness that they had in the first half, failed yet again.
