1-0: A penalty dashes UD Almería 'B's hopes in Puente Genil
The youthful Rojiblancos lose their first match with head coach José María Salmerón in the dugout. They deserved a positive result. In the two remaining matches of 2025, they will face direct rivals
A penalty in the final minutes of the match dashed UD Almería 'B's hopes of a positive result in their league fixture against direct rivals Salerm Puente Genil. This is the first defeat with José María Salmerón in the driving seat as his previous encounters had resulted in 2 wins and 2 draws.
UD Almería 'B' did not deserve to lose in Córdoba. They deserved a positive result, having chances to take the lead and also to equalise when their opponents went 1-0 up. The youthful Rojiblancos had two strong starts in both halves, dominating possession and creating danger with counter-attacks. And that is despite the fact that the playing surface was not in the best conditions.
With the arrival of the new head coach, UD Almería 'B' have gained reliability. They are solid at the back, decisive and in Puente Genil they managed to keep their opponents at bay. It is a shame that they lacked accuracy, effectiveness, and luck in attack, although luck also played a part.
Right at the start of the second half, Iker Burgos assisted Joan, who with the goalkeeper beaten, almost made it 0-1, but a defender cleared it off the line.
In the first half, Asirón, Marciano, Iker Burgos... also whipped in their chances. After the 1-0 penalty, UD Almería 'B' tried everything against a Puente Genil side that sat back. A pity, because the lads could have continued to take steps forward in their aspirations. There is still a long way to go and now there are two more matches against direct rivals in the fight for survival.
Next Sunday, UD Melilla visit Almería and a week later, the 2025 season will conclude in Estepona.
