1-0: Two disallowed goals prevent UD Almería Women from winning

The Rojiblancas keep hold of the ball and fashion chances against Malaga CF Women, but two controversial decisions cost them dearly

UD Almería Women were adversely affected by disallowed two goals and ended up losing away to leaders and already-promoted Málaga CF Women. In general terms, the Rojiblancas had more goal-scoring opportunities, but those two controversial decisions cost them dearly. As a consequence, the hosts took advantage of the only mistake made by the visitors to claim victory on home turf (1-0). After this unwanted setback, the girls from UD Almeria will now have to wait to find out their rivals’ results -CP Cacereño Women 'B' team’s game has been postponed- and see what must happen to keep their promotion hopes alive.

The most remarkable clear sights at goal were fashioned by the visitors, and thus in the 28th minute, there was a double opportunity for UD Almeria Women in which Fátima, first, was kept at bay by a defender and next, Ana Carrascosa, after taking the subsequent corner-kick, put goalie Andrea Ríos to the test..

That was exactly the moment when the first controversial ruling of the Andalusian derby went against the Indalicas. With 37 minute gone, the ref disallowed the goal for a dubious offside by Fátima. Esther finished off a corner-kick, the keeper saved the shot and the forward scored. However, the flag was up after the ball went in.

The girls from UD Almería had been competing for a while now, not only were they competing perfectly against resilient hosts from neighbouring-side Málaga, but the Rojiblancas’ dominance triggered an increase of big chances, yet when head coach Álvaro García Búrdalo's players were performing at their best, a second goal by contender Sarita was unbelievably ruled out on 58 minutes. The match official interpreted that the forward committed a foul.

The two disallowed goals seemed to bring UD Almeria Women a bit down, who were having to fight more than necessary. To make matters worse, football was unfair yet again to the visitors when the hosts found the back of the net for the first time in the match (1-0) when Carmen was beaten between the sticks in the first strike at the hands of the Blanquiazules, whose total effectiveness could wreck the Rojiblancas’ hopes for promotion.

UD Almeria Women faced the consequences until the full-time whistle, looking at least for a point that could be vital in the near future. Now, they will have to wait patiently to find out the rest of the results achieved by rivals CP Cacereño Women 'B', and therefore know how many points are needed to reach promotion.
