1-0: UD Almería defeated by SD Eibar in stoppage-time drama at Ipurúa
Late goal seals victory for the Armeros as the Rojiblancos extend their winless streak to 3 matches
UD Almería’s recent struggles continued with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to SD Eibar at the Ipurúa Stadium, marking their second back-to-back defeat and extending their winless run to 3 matches. Despite a bright start, the Rojiblancos failed to capitalise on early dominance, with SD Eibar taking control after the first 20 minutes. A late header courtesy from Olaetxea in stoppage time sealed the victory for the Basque Country side, leaving UD Almería frustrated and searching for answers.
UD Almería head coach Rubi made several changes to the line-up in an attempt to turn around the team’s fortunes. Bonini, returning from injury, partnered Nelson Monte as centre-back, while Marcos Luna took over at right-back due to Chirino's suspension. Miguel de la Fuente was handed his first start and the team started with intent, controlling possession early on. In the 10th minute, Arribas had a chance to open the scoring with a shot from outside the box that narrowly missed. De la Fuente and Embarba also tested the Armeros' defence, but the visitors could not find a breakthrough.
However, a critical error by Bonini in the 16th minute allowed SD Eibar to gain momentum. From that point, the home side dominated, with the Indálicos' defence under constant pressure. Martón came close to scoring in the 30th minute, heading a Corpas cross off the crossbar. Andrés Fernández was called into action several times to deny SD Eibar’s attackers, keeping the scoreline level until half-time. But UD Almería looked increasingly rattled and uncomfortable, unable to regain their early composure.
In the second half, SD Eibar continued to dictate the pace of the game, with UD Almería unable to maintain possession or build any meaningful attacks. Despite a warning from Rubi to keep possession, the visitors struggled, with a missed header from De la Fuente in the 63rd minute highlighting their frustrations.
The Catalan gaffer made a triple substitution in the 65th minute, bringing on Baba, Jon Morcillo and Soko in a bid to inject fresh energy. However, even with fresh legs, UD Almería failed to find their rhythm. As the game neared its conclusion, a 0-0 draw seemed like a fair result, but in the 90+2', the Basque outfit capitalised on a set-piece. Olaetxea rose highest to meet the ball, heading it past Fernández to give SD Eibar a last-minute victory.
The defeat leaves UD Almería in a difficult position, with much work to be done ahead of their next fixture as they look to regain form and avoid falling further down the table.
