1-0: Almería Women season debut with defeat against Sporting de Huelva B
The Rojiblancas played an evenly-matched game in which they deserved a better result
The UD Almería women's team made their 2020/21 season debut with a defeat after losing 1-0 to Sporting de Huelva ‘B’. The Rojiblancas had opportunities to obtain a better result. However, they did not manage to find the net and it was not possible to score the much-needed equaliser to share the points at least.
From the beginning it was clear that it was meant to be an evenly-matched game. Carlos Hinojo's players visited the youth squad of a team of the highest league level of women's football in Spain, a fact that demonstrated how demanding the fixture was for the girls in red and white striped shirts.
After half an hour of play and several scoring opportunities, María Flores was about to put Almería in front. Nonetheless, the clinical finish of the visiting player failed to beat goalie María Alejandra.
The match was heading towards half-time and this would come with a hard blow for the UD Almería Women girls, since, with 43 minutes on the clock, Lucía helped Sporting de Huelva ‘B’ take the lead.
After the restart, Carlos Hinojo made some substitutions on the bench so that Nadia and Flores came on for team-mates Pelu and Esther. The idea of the head coach was none other than creating more mobility in the attack to be able to turn the game around. In addition, shortly afterwards, Paqui, Fátima and Ana Carrascosa were introduced while Anita, Sonia and Chelo came off the pitch.
In the final stretch, the Almeria’s women kept trying hard without luck. The ref directly sent off Ana Carrascosa, from the visiting team, and Anabel from the home side. Without finding their way to score, the final whistle came confirming the 1-0 result in a match in which the Rojiblancas deserved a better result.
